Fathers from Miami-Dade County’s District 1 Schools were treated to a ‘send-off’ ceremony for the Dr. Bob Ingram’s Read to Lead Scholarship Tour, a scholarship program for District 1 Elementary Schools for their parental involvement and student’s academic accomplishments.

The Read-To-Lead Scholarship Tour is an all-expense paid trip to the oldest city in the United States, St. Augustine, Florida.  Transported by luxury coach, the tour group would visit several historical sites, including the ‘Oldest School House in the U.S.’

The fathers visited the restored Lincolnsville, an African American suburb where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stayed on several occasions, famous meeting halls used by civil rights leaders, St. Augustine’s many churches and cathedrals, Flagler College and a Spanish Fort overlooking the picturesque bay of St. Augustine.  The next day, the fathers traveled to Universal Studios, a part of the ‘fun-while-learning’ concept by Read-To-Lead’s founder, Dr. Robert B. Ingram, School Board Member for District 1.

Sharing in the fun were Read to Lead managers Erhabor Ighodaro and Arlington Sands with District 1 fathers, Codio Deslandes of North Miami Elementary School, Charles Arnold of Skyway Elementary School, Gary Johnson of Opa-Locka Elementary School, Earl Bethel of Myrtle Grove Elementary School, Dwight Duncombe of Skyway Elementary School, Dennis Burse of Golden Glades Elementary School, Gilbens JeanGilles of Natural Bridge Elementary School, Jose Riofrio from W.J. Bryan Elementary School, Andre James of Hibiscus Elementary School, Miguel Garcia of Miami Gardens Elementary School, Gregory Armond of North County Elementary School and Clarence Claire of Crestview School.

The tour that School Board Member Dr. Ingram referred to as “Fathers who love their children” tour, took place April 5-6, 2007.
